  • Despite the title-card, this lady's name is Mercedes Gleitze.

    She was a prolific record-breaking swimmer in the 1920s and 30s. Some of her many feats can be found here - click on the image of Mercedes to find an autographed photo that confirms the spelling of the surname.....
