  • Description

Full title reads: "Leicester. The Prince of Wales - arriving unexpectedly at the Historical Pageant - receives a most striking & spontaneous demonstration of love and loyalty from players and audience."

    Leicester, Leicestershire.

Historical pageant underway in park. People dressed in medieval garb. Several of the costumed women are riding horses.

A car arrives and out steps the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor). People, both in costume and in civvies, gather round the Prince cheering. Several of the men, dressed as knights, hold up their shields on their swords.

The Prince goes up to the stand, he is being given three cheers.

He descends from the stand into the throng - lots of them are in costume. (Sound track runs out).

We then see the show ground being pelted with heavy rain and looking very empty (not sure if this is actually part of the same story)

(Natural sound track only - No commentary)

Animals are often the forgotten army of World War I. They displayed unwavering courage even when exposed to extreme conditions. British Pathé pay tribute to these forgotten warriors.

British Pathe captured many extraordinary events on film over its 80 year history but sometimes the cameras were switched on when tragedy struck.
