A village church. Top shot of a village street, Hovis sign visible. Row of terraced houses. Postman in uniform emerges. He checks his pocket watch then walks along village streets. Man brings a bike out of a very small Post Office next to a shop called "The Spinning Wheel". Postman goes in and speaks to the local post master, signs in and sorts his bundle of mail. He ties the bundle with a piece of string. We then see the postman with lots of small bundles of mail and parcels. He places them in a large mailbag and puts the strap of the bag over his head. He leaves the Post Office and walks off with his bike.

We see him cycling in the street, opening gates, posting mail etc. He walks up the path to the church. A man walking along waves to the postie. A woman standing on her step and washing her windows is handed her mail. A small child excitedly takes mail from the postman and runs off round the side of the house with it. A woman waves to postman and crosses street to collect her mail. Many of the houses visited are old Tudor style timbered buildings. Postie has a hard job cycling up a hill. C/U of a sign which reads: "Steep Hill". When he gets to the top he takes his hat off and wipes his forehead with a handkerchief.

C/U of road sign which reads: "Wheathampstead 1 mile, Welwyn 5 miles". He sets off again and cycles past farms and across a rickety bridge. A "gentleman farmer" type in a trilby hat walking along with his dog tips his hat to the postman. He has a chat with the postman and gives a parcel to his daughter who runs off with it past some chickens. Postman checks his tyre pressure then puts some air in with a pump. Cycles off. Postman arrives back at the Post Office. He hands something to the post master and leaves.

(Unusually for these "day in the working life of..." films, there is no "having a cup of tea after a hard day" shot!)
