  • The man featured here is (William) Leefe Robinson VC.

    In 1917 he was captured by the Germans - although he survived the war, he sadly died on 31 December 1918 of Spanish Flu. (That date of death may enable you to alter the current date range of this piece).

    Robinson won his VC after becoming the first British pilot to shot down a German airship. Details of the action for which he was awarded the medal can be found here...
