L/S as horses walk up the course, they include 'Mr What', 'Wyndburgh' ridden by Michael Scudamore and Gerry Scott on 'Merryman II'. C/U 'Badanloch' (Badenloch ?), they canter to the start. Various shots of people looking through binoculars. C/U tic-tac man and bookmakers as people put on last minute bets.

M/S as horses line up at the start, Mr Marsh raises the tape and they're off. Various shots of the race. C/U woman looking through binoculars. M/S as 'Tea Fiend' leads as they jump over the the first fence. Various shots as he continues to lead over the second, third, fourth and fifth. C/U Home Secretary Rab Butler watching the race through binoculars to see for himself if the race is cruel for the horses. M/S Beechers Brook, 'Knoxtown' takes nasty fall. 'Green Drill' takes over the lead at the next jump. M/S canal turn, a few horses fall. Various shots as they jump at Valentine's Brook. L/S 'Tea Fiend', who is first over water jump. M/S of Beechers Brook for second time, some horses fall.
M/S coming towards the canal turn, 'Tea Fiend' is over followed by 'Badenloch', and 'Merryman II' who is on the inside. M/S crowd. Tracking shot follows the three leaders approaching Valentine's. 'Badenloch' and 'Merryman II' jump it together followed by 'Tea Fiend', the two leaders race on to the next jump. 'Badenloch' is a neck in front. C/U man looking through binoculars. Tracking shot as they come to the next jump which they take together, 'Tea Fiend', has dropped well back. 'Merryman II' starts to draw away from 'Badenloch'.

C/U man looking through binoculars. The camera pans with 'Merryman II' now three lengths clear of 'Badenloch'. M/S of the horses coming up the field, 'Merryman II' takes last fence, followed by 'Badenloch'. Various shots as 'Merryman II' races past the post to win. He is led in by Miss Winifred Wallace and Neville Crump the trainer. Crump pushes a man out of the way. M/S as he is led past the crowd. C/U of a woman watching.
