  • Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb - September 1933.

00:45 – No.26 Raymond Mays in the supercharged “White Riley” special.
    01:00 – No.54 Whitney Straight in his black 2.5-litre supercharged Maserati 8C.
    01:12 – No.61 Earl Howe in a Bugatti.

"unidentified driver talking about his having broken a record. He shakes hands with a fellow driver" - Raymond Mays (wearing a beret) had just broken Hans Stuck's three year old record, but had then been intermediately beaten by Whitney Straight, who is the other driver in this clip.
Straight, a native New Yorker, was educated at Cambridge, was an RAF fighter pilot in the Battle of Britain - reaching the rank of Air Commodore - then became involved in the aviation industry as Chairman of BEA, then CEO of BOAC and then Deputy Chairman of Rolls Royce.
