    Wharram-le-Street in North Yorkshire. "Once upon a time, cattle grazed peacefully in this Yorkshire valley. Today, the chief things fed are the 'locos' and giant diggers." High angle panning shot of valley crisscrossed with railway tracks.

    "Three tons a time is the weight of one bucket of chalk here" Various shots of large mechanical diggers moving lumps of chalk, tipping them into train trucks. "Then into the crushers - an avalanche of chalk." A large container of chalk flips over, tipping it towards the camera. High angle shot of the chalk being pulled down into the crushing machines.

    "And out to the waiting trucks..." M/S of chalk pouring out of the bottom of the crusher. M/S of the outside of the processing shed. High angle shot of the chalk being transported by train.
