Animation featuring Pongo the Pup. Opens with Pongo painting a picture. A girl stands behind a screen. Pongo laughs. The girl poses suggestively. Pongo takes her measurements. He has grand notions of his picture being on display in the National Gallery. Suddenly a fake leg hanging on the wall kicks Pongo on the backside and sends him flying into the air. He lands head first in a paint pot. He kicks the screen to reveal that his model isn't a real woman but the bust of a woman standing on top of a flower pot and a soap box. He gets the paint pot off his head and laughs. A suit of armour suddenly comes to life and jabs him with a sword. Pongo throws the vase at the suit of armour. A spring loaded device to which a telephone is affixed suddenly moves forward and knocks Pongo over.
Someone says "Hi!" then "You're wanted in the General Managers' Office." Pongo climbs inside the telephone and squeezes through the telephone line. In the General Managers office we see the silhouette of the boss through the windows. He is smoking a large cigar. Pongo climbs out of the telephone and stands on the desk. He kicks the telephone off the desk. The General Manager says "All the Staff are away with Flu' or Cross-word Puzzleitis so you will have to make up this week's News Film." "Pongo's troubles soon started." C/U of Pongo's petty cash voucher for expenses (over £500!) He signs the form and takes it to the cashiers office. He knocks on the door and a rocket flies out of the keyhole and says "Come in." Pongo lifts up the door and crawls underneath into the office. Bangs and crashes ensue as if a fight taking place and Pongo is thrown through the window and out of the office. The £500 turns into an airship and floats off with the expenses claim. "Ten minutes later...." Pongo walks along with a wheelbarrow. He attempts to set up a camera tripod but it keeps on falling over. He kicks the tripod, it flies up in the air then lands on his backside. He has a think. A bubble appears over his head representing a Pathe Freres cinema. A poster outside announces: "Pongo's Supper Gazette - Grand National - Boat Race" He imagines himself being kicked out of the cinema. He tries again with the camera shouting "FORE!" for some reason. He cranks the camera. The film starts falling out.
"The Result!" A title card comes up "Pongo's Supper Gazette". The first story is announced "Wigan - Lloyd George Swims the Channel" Funny sequence involving large waves, tiny Lloyd George and a man in a boat. "Australia - Cup-Tie Final Match" Pongo has filmed the football match very badly - swerving from side to side and getting his face in shot. "Ireland - England wins the Boat Race - the Start at Putney Bridge" Rough water with Tower Bridge in background. "Scandinavia - The Finish - Mortlake Brewery - P.S. The winners beat the losers by several pints." Rolling footage of a brewery (as if the cameraman was drunk!) "Russia - The Grand National" Two nags have a race. "As seen by our ultra-rabid [sic] camera" Silly slow motion footage. The horses then jump a fence and throw off their riders. The horses then dance with each other.
Note: "Pongo's Supper Gazette" is a pun on "Super Gazette" the name of one of Pathe's newsreel releases in the 1920s.
