  • This was for "National Baby Week," the slogan for which was "Save the Babies." Begun in 1914 during WWI when many women were required to work with their husbands off at war, (or had been made widows), there was increased concern that children would suffer as a result. A campaign was begun to educate women about the basics of pediatric care, and ensure they and their children would be seen in a sympathetic light by society in general. Events such as this were organized all across the country, and included baby shows--not for the most handsome--but for the most healthy babies.
