"Many of you will be in the country during the coming weeks will you please take extra care to keep to the footpaths, avoid livestock and above all keep away, stay away from land if a notice is put up asking you to keep away because of foot and mouth disease. I have a special message for farmers we cannot stamp out the disease unless you report any symptoms of it at once. Nearly all farmers have co-operated magnificently but there have been one of two cases where unfortunately owing to late reports serious developments have taken place. Please do watch your stock carefully during these coming weeks and tell the police at once if you notice any suspicious symptoms either signs of lameness or of sore mouths. You can help us all greatly if you take this advice".
MS Mr Legerton, farmer, with Dugdale, he comments on posters "these posters have been most useful, the public have co-operated with us very well and have kept away from the cattle, but I do think sir that we ought to impress on them that the danger is not yet over and will they please take notice and keep away from cattle as much as they possibly can".
Dugdale says "How absolutely right you are I couldn't agree more with everything you have said".
