    Full title reads: "SPAIN".

This is the mute copy of the item SPANISH CIVIL WAR found in Pathe Gazettes issue 37/4 on Pathe Master tape *PM0909*.

    Spain, location unknown.

Footage of Antifascist forces fighting against fascist dictator General Francisco Franco's Nationalist Army during Spanish Civil War.

Spanish countryside with a castle on a hill. Closer shot of a castle showing destruction - castle looks old so it is unclear whether destruction is outcome of war.

Several nice shots of the soldiers relaxing in between battles. Nice C/U shot of a girl soldier laughing. She has POUM insignia on her cap.

POUM - stands for Partido Obrero de Unificacion Marxista. The party members were known as Anti-Stalinist Marxist - some of their troops were International Brigades.

Various shots of the men firing field guns in the countryside. Cut to several shots of the street fight. Several nice shots of the soldiers relaxing after the battle - chatting, eating, walking around...

There is no mention of this item in the original paperwork for this issue. There is another mute copy of this film found in Pathe Gazettes issue 37/4 on Pathe Master tape *PM0909* as an extra story - it does not belong to that issue either. This copy is transferred from negative and the other copy is transferred from lavender print.
