Location of events unknown.

Aviation. Aeroplane called Southern Cross arrives at small airport. It is greeted by a small crowd. Crew descends; they and the welcomers pose together. Crew wearing shorts. Possibly arrival of long distance flight from Australia?

  • The aircraft seen here is the famous Fokker F.VIIb/3m, Reg. No. VH-USU, named "Southern Cross".

    At 00:52, the man stepping out of the plane is Harold Litchfield.

    At 01:05, left of picture in the light shirt, is Thomas McWilliams.

    At 01:10, left of picture, fiddling with his jacket, is Charles Kingsford Smith.

    At 01:55, the man smoking is Charles Ulm.

    Note that the four men are momentarily all in frame together at 01:58.

    Given the appearance of these four aviators, this scene is part of Kingsford Smith's Trans-Tasman flight in 1928, (enabling a reduction of the clip's current date range).

    Exactly where they are in this clip, however, remains unclear.
