The royal party visit Cecil Rhodes' grave in Motopo (?), Southern Rhodesia. We see them walking up a steep hill to the grave. C/U of the gravestone. Princess Elizabeth makes her first public appearance alone at the opening of a new graving (?) dock in East London. Shots of cheering crowds and of the royal standard flag. The international flag is unfurled - it flies next to the Union Jack. C/U of the Princess making a speech. Panning shot of children waving flags and cheering. The Frigate Transvaal bursts the white tape at the entrance to the dock. The wife of South Africa's Transport Minister gives Princess Elizabeth a gift - diamonds. Zululand - gathering of tribesmen. Men in traditional costumes carrying spears and shields. Other men in western style clothes follow. Royal family are driven through crowds of tribesmen.

Narrator says of the Zulus: "Today his race is perhaps the most intelligent and friendly of all the black population of South Africa." The royal family walk on to a podium. Dignitaries bow and curtsey. The Zulu tribesmen chant. C/Us of Zulu chiefs "How stubbornly their ancient customs survive is nowhere more apparent than in the Zulu's attitude to their womenfolk - they are the workers. A man works only to secure more wives." A large group of Zulu women run across a field brandishing spears and chanting. C/U of the King and Queen watching a traditional dance. M/S of women dancing. "Crying a royal salute, the ranks of tribesmen surge upon the royal dais for the symbolic gesture of submission."

L/S of Table Mountain. Cable car approaches the camera. Various shots of the moving cable car, the mountain, views from the cable car and shots inside the car of the royal family. On the summit the royal party set out to meet Field Marshall Smuts who had made the journey by foot. The party walk around and look at the view. As do some sailors from HMS Vanguard. View of the city below with sailors in the foreground. Sailors have a picnic - one sailor eats a piece of watermelon. Three girls in uniform laugh at the sailors who are running towards the food.

High angle views of Cape Town. "... above all their majesties' visit had been a token of the interdependence of two great nations." The royal party leave. CU of the Queen and of the King - he wears naval uniform. C/U of the two Princesses. The family boards HMS Vanguard and it leaves port. Views of crowds gathered to wave them off and of the family on deck. Crew of the Vanguard give three cheers and wave their hats. L/S of Vanguard at sea. The wake of the boat with mountains in the background.
