L/S of a horse drawn carriage moving towards the camera along a country lane. The carriage passes a hiker - he waves his stick at the passengers.
The hiker arrives in a field where a group of young boys (possibly boy scouts) sit around in a circle waiting to meet him. He takes off his knapsack to show the boys what he carries with him on his trips around the world. He pulls out a government blanket, a little cook pot, tin plate, frying pan, billy can, paraffin stove, a woolly balaclava helmet and woolly scarf (he puts these on to demonstrate), electric searchlight lamp and last but not least a gramophone!
Shots of the boys listening intently are intercut with shots of John unpacking his backpack. He shows the boys the knife he used to protect himself in the jungle. As he pulls out his knife the boys all exclaim "Gee!" or something similar. He wishes them all a good hike and they set off leaving him with all his gear unpacked. They wave goodbye.
