Sir William Purdie Treloar (Lord Mayor of London 1906) founded a hospital in the country for crippled children. The hospital was opened in 1907 in Alton, Hampshire:

Title: "Now to the college where permanently crippled boys are taught a useful trade".
WS A boys dormitory. A man enters and the boys leap out of bed, quickly strip the sheets off their beds and run out. Title: "How many of you get up with such keenness and alacrity?". The bathroom. Pan down a row of baths side by side with boys bathing and waiting by. "And after breakfast to the workshops". The boys briskly walk outside to a large hut nearby (many are limping or on crutches). "In the leather shops the boys become skilled in the making of all kinds of leather goods". Pan around the busy workshop. MS a boy shows us a smart leather suitcase and inspects it. A tutor inspects it too. "A few specimens of their handiwork". A static display of leather cases, briefcases, wallets, bags etc. "In the bootshop they are not confined to the manufacture of ordinary footwear, but surgical boots - a highly skilled trade" Pan round the boys at work. "All the clothes for the college boys are made in the tailor's shop". A sewing room with boys sewing by hand and on sewing machines. "The afternoon is devoted to sport and the agility displayed is remarkable - and ample proof of the effectiveness of their treatment"

01:09:18. A milking stable. Several shots women in white uniforms milking. Six children swinging on a sun lounger, some are wearing daisy chains. The nurses serve them drinks from a soda syphon. CU the children laughing and eating, one child has his arm in a leather sling. Really lovely shots - very cute and heart warming. Scenes in the leather shop. CU a boy making a boot. Several shots of him stitching. Pan across the front of the hospital with all the beds in the courtyard sunshine. Nurses outside. A view of the surrounding landscape - fields and lake. A young child in hospital bed in a private room. The walls are mainly glass. The nurse opens all the doors. Women playing doubles on a tennis court. Children (clearly still in hot weather!) playing in the woodlands. Lots of hat waving and running about.

01:15:28 Hayling Island. The Sandy Point branch of the hospital. It's all sea, sand and sunshine!. Pans around the sea view and countryside. The children on the beach and playing in the sea. Some are held and aided by helpers (wearing wading trousers over their suits and ties !) as they dip the children in the sea. A little girl is carried into the sea on a kind of net stretcher. She laughs and kicks as they dip her. The stretcher is carried back to the hospital. Two children are sprayed with a hosepipe. MS the children drink tea wrapped in towels. The nurses demonstrate the fire drill and assemble the hose. Leather shop and tailoring shots. A boy is fitted for a new jacket. CU shiny new boot.
