This is TV version of the newsreel story ROYAL FILM PERFORMANCE in Pathe News 54/90.

Empire Leicester Square, London.

Title reads "The Royal Film Performance - Described by Jack Hawkins". Empire, Leicester Square - crowd around the entrance. Cars slowly drive to the entrance, stars appear - looks like a classic film premiere. This one is different. Apart from stars Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip (Duke of Edinburgh) and Princess Margaret will arrive later to chat with stars and see the film "Beau Brummel" - this is a yearly show for the Royals. Jane Russell and Stewart Granger are seen getting out of car and waving to public before entering the Empire. More stars arrive, Shelley Winters, Anna Neagle, Jane Russel. Interior, Jack Hawkins with wife and children, talking to Michael Redgrave. Peter Ustinov looks a bit lost. John Mills with wife is greeted by Sam Eckman, chairman of MGM. Several shots of people mingling, chatting. Susan Steel, Peter Finch and Jane Russel are engaged in conversation. Arthur Rank talks to Robert Clark, head of the producers association. Stars lining up.

Royal car arriving outside. Crowd cheering. Prince Philip gets out first and helps Princess Margaret with her dress. Queen leaves the car last. Interior, Jack Hawkins' son Nicholas biting his lips holding flowers - he is to give flowers to the Queen. Technicians getting ready. Queen is greeted by Reginald Bromhead, Harry (possibly Bob - name unclear, paperwork states one, voiceover the other) Woolf and Sam Eckman. Three men escort the Queen upstairs. Several shots of the Queen shaking hands with the stars - voicover talks about warmth the Queen puts into each handshake... Mr Hawkes rejects word 'formality' and describes meeting the Queen as warmest and most significant of experiences." Nice C/U shot of John Gregson. Prince Philip rather enjoys Jane Russell's company. Little Nicholas presents flowers to the Queen. Several shots of Royal party talking to stars, projectionists getting ready and queen taking seat to enjoy the film.

"Jane Russell and Stewart Granger are seen getting out of car" - that's Jean Simmons, not Jane Russell, (Russell appears later).

"John Mills with wife" - his wife is the playwright Mary Hayley Bell.

"Susan Steel, Peter Finch and Jane Russel (sic) are engaged in conversation" - that isn't Jane Russell, it's an unidentified interviewer, holding a microphone.

Directly after Steel and Finch, and currently undocumented, we see a close up of CJ Latta and his wife.

"Mr Hawkes" should read Mr Hawkins.

At 03:19, currently undocumented, the Queen chats to Sir Philip and Lady Warter.

At 03:36, the Queen meets actress Brenda de Banzie.

Then at 03:40 actress Valentina Cortese.

At 04:38, Prince Philip talks to actor Ronald Shiner.

At 04:55, the Queen speaks to the Marchioness of Northampton.
