Travelogue style film featuring the Austin A95 Westminster car. Made by the British Motor Corporation - B.M.P. Australian ex-serviceman revisits his old haunts including Devon and Cornwall.
Story is narrated by someone supposedly, "back in England for the first time since the war". He has an Australian accent. People are seen disembarking from a liner. Exterior of an Austin Motor showroom. Interior as our hero looks at an Austin A95 Westminster car - a nice red one. He speaks of how good the car is as a family car - we see how large the boot is. Our hero takes the car for a spin. C/U of him in the driving seat looking very pleased with himself. He is hiring the car for a fortnight.
Various shots of a blue Austin A95 being driven through London streets. Lots of London landmarks are seen: Westminster Bridge, Regent Street, Houses of Parliament, Trooping of the Colour, Picadilly Circus, Horseguards Parade, Buckingham Palace, Marching Band (Grenadiers), River Thames, Battersea Power Station, etc. All nicely shot. He hears what he thinks is an air raid siren - turns out to be a factory whistle.
Exterior of St Ermin's Hotel. Our hero leaves the hotel with his family. They are going on a little touring holiday. We see luggage being loaded into the boot. We see the family driving through London then into the countryside. They drive to the Thames Valley and through some country lanes. They arrive in a picturesque country village. Then we see them at Marlow. They visit a nice old fashioned pub. The children run down to the riverside. Cut to library footage of same scene.
See other records.
See tape 2279 for reel 3.
