I live in Glrentrool about 3 1/2 miles from the Buchan house where this film was shot. Many of the old residents knew of this 'occurence' and worse still believed it, many still do. Now for the science. Domesticated dogs are descended from the grey wolf and are placed in the genus Canis which is itself placed in the family Canidae. The red fox is in the genus Vulpes which is also in the much larger family Canidae. However this is where science debunks urban myth and stupid country folk's superstitions and beliefs. Dogs and Wolves have 78 chromosomes wheras a Fox has either 38 or 34 making it impossible for this supposed hybrid to be realised. The dogs in the film are a mixed bunch with obvious Retriever, Border collie and possibly Spaniel blood in them. There is not even an ounce of Fox to be seen in looks, colour or behaviour. Utter tosh. Trouble is people listen and believe the regurgitated nonsense because they cannot be bothered to investigate known facts. Gossip ruled then and it…
