  • The event featured here was held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Institute of Locomotive Engineers. The event ran from 11-14 May 1961.

    "locomotive Mallard" is the A4 Pacific No. 4468, "Mallard".

    "The Evening Star" is Standard Class 9F No. 92220 "Evening Star".

    "Mr Bray" is Thomas Bray, fireman when the Mallard made its afore-mentioned record-breaking run.

    "Interior of diesel loco D 7000" - this was a class of diesel locomotive known as a "Hymek" (later known as a Class 35).

    "power unit of D 8400" - the locomotive was known as a "North British Type 1", (later known as a Class 16).
