THIS DIGIBETA VERSION HAS BEEN MADE FROM THE PRINT - VERSION ON TAPE *PM0870* WILL PROBABLY BE BETTER QUALITY AS TAKEN FROM THE NEGATIVE.

A film about producing a cabaret show at the Grafton Galleries. The Producer stands and watches a long line of chorus girls performing high kicks. They are in their day wear rather than costumes so this is either a rehearsal or an audition. A musical scene is rehearsed. Various members of the cast sing whilst holding the words of the song. The Producer stands at the front and conducts.

C/U of one of the leading ladies singing. Then of one of the leading men - looking rather cross eyed and wearing top hat and tails. A younger woman sings in C/U. M/S of the band. Producer throws down his hat and carries on conducting the group. Opening night. Couples move around the dance floor, dissolve into two strangely dressed women presumably announcing that the cabaret will begin. Various snippets are shown - sensual dancing by a woman with a large shawl, chorus girls dressed as chocolate boxes dance in a circle and two dancers perform a rough and tumble dance routine involving throws and cartwheels.

Chorus girls dance a prim old fashioned dance in large crinolines. A living statue "the Woman in Bronze" holds a smoking pot in her hands and moves it around. She holds the pot above her head and we see her in C/U looking very solemn.

Note: according to contemporary reviews the Woman in Bronze was the hit of the show! I think that her name was Evon Pinard.

Safety print exists - show print. Probably to be found in the "Frocks Frolics & Follies" roll.

Animals are often the forgotten army of World War I. They displayed unwavering courage even when exposed to extreme conditions. British Pathé pay tribute to these forgotten warriors.

British Pathe captured many extraordinary events on film over its 80 year history but sometimes the cameras were switched on when tragedy struck.
