Mute unedited material. Probably rushes or out-takes of "54/53" news story about the opening of the Welsh Sunshine Home for Blind Babies. 1954?

The Sunshine Home is a special home for blind children. Various shots of blind children playing together. Two boys play with a bowl of water and toys, one operates a mangle, another boy does some woodwork. Low angle of a sign which reads: "The Variety Club Welsh Sunshine Home for Blind Babies - Founded by Tenovus" (the last word is difficult to read so may be incorrect spelling).

M/S of Princess Margaret in a fur stole being introduced to various dignitaries - possibly the school governors or teachers at the school. Various shots of the Princess meeting and greeting, signing a visitor's book, meeting some of the children, taking a bouquet from a blind boy, saying goodbye and getting into her car. The car drives away from the home, crowds of spectators line the street.

A blind boy is led by the hand into his bedroom and lifted onto the bed. A woman talks to the boy as she undoes his shoes. The boy picks up and cuddles his teddy bear. The woman moves the bear around and talks to the boy. She helps the boy to undress, he doesn't look too happy. Various shots of children outside the school buildings. Children are led inside the canteen. Inside the canteen the children sit together at tables and have their lunch. They are mostly children of about 5 or 6 rather than babies. Women serve the children their food - various shots of the children eating. The children tuck napkins into their shirts or jumpers then balance their food plate on the end of the napkins. Some of the children are helped by carers (they may be nurses although they don't wear a uniform).

Outside in the playground. Children have fun on the swings. L/S of the home with the sign outside. One of the children is crying, a carer sits him in the swing. Girl rocks a little cradle which has a doll inside. C/U of a man being interviewed - he is not identified (no sound on this print).

Probably rushes or out-takes of "54/53" news story about the opening of the Welsh Sunshine Home for Blind Babies. Some of these shots are repeats of shots already seen but filmed by different cameramen - presumably Pathe had several cameramen covering the story.

Children play in the playground on swings, in a miniature wheelbarrow, with a doll and miniature pram, etc.

Various shots of Princess Margaret meeting dignitaries (may be a repeat of those already seen). L/S of seated crowd outside the Home. More shots of children enjoying the swings, little girl rocking cradle, dignitaries at the opening of the home, Princess Margaret arriving, Princess Margaret being handed a bouquet, Princess Margaret walking across the grass to go inside the home, Margaret speaking from a podium, crowds waiting outside for a glimpse of royalty. Children in the playground, crowds lining the street, the royal cavalcade, Princess arriving, meeting staff or governors, going inside the home, walking in the grounds, being handed a bouquet, Princess leaving.

Princess walking up to the podium. Man making a speech from the podium. Another man makes a speech (it is a long speech - the Princess looks a bit bored.) Closer shot of him making his speech. Closer shot of the Princess. The Princess is handed a gift which she shows to others on the podium. The Princess walks to the microphone and makes her speech. L/S of the Princess making her speech. Dignitaries and crowd applaud. Vicar makes a speech. Camera pans to show front of the home with spectators watching from the top windows. Margaret steps down from the podium and walks towards the home. End.
