Pictorial Revue of 1943 - Reel 4. (Compilation of turns from the Pathe cinemagazines.)

    (Continued.)

C/U of album page reading 'Oliver Wakefield'. Fade into M/S of comedian Wakefield in the studio wearing white tie and tails, holding a cigarette and making a stuttering speech to camera. He talks about self-made men and stiff upper lips. (This is duplicate of item in Turns Can 9 - see separate record for full details. It is missing item from PT 439.)

C/U of album page reading 'Big Bill Campbell and his Rocky Mountaineers'. Fade into shot of Big Bill, dressed in a rather smart cowboy shirt, tie and hat. He says "Howdy folks, here's the old hilly billy band, bringing you a breath of the great old west, yes sir!"(the psuedo-western style of this whole item reminds me of the Johnny Mercer song 'I'm An Old Cowhand'). Several musicians sit around him on a set dressed to look like an outdoor campfire area, all wearing similar western garb and playing a brief but lively cowboy refrain on guitars, violins, accordion, woodwind and double bass. At the end of the piece Bill says tells us they're mighty tough in the west, and to demonstrate this they play another jaunty tune. Bill sings, rather predictably, 'We're Tough, Mighty Tough, In The West'. A check-shirted man beside Bill takes the next verse. Towards the end, the band lets rip in a swing version of their song - pretty good. (This is missing item from PT 399.)

C/U of album page reading 'Robb Wilton'. Commentator introduces Wilton as "that majestic magistrate of fun" as we fade into shot of Robb sitting in a magistrate chair (as if in court). Robb leans over the desk and tells us the story of one of his clients - a lady who was hit by a tram driven by her husband. (This is the same monologue as found in PT 144, but in a different setting - interesting to compare the two.) Then an American lady in a swimsuit comes running into the courtroom in a state. Robb searches for his spectacles and asks what she is charged with. She replies "Not being properly attired". Lots of crosstalk follows - she's from Palm Beach and has been sunbathing. Robb calls for a taxi and says he'll send the clerk of court and the policeman home with her. She gets angry because she wants to go home with Robb ("the main guy"), and starts throwing his papers all over the place. She runs off, leaving Robb in a state, especially when he realises "she's got me football pools!". He runs after her as we hear people shouting "Stop that woman!". (This is probably missing item from PT 496 - hooray that it's turned up!).

End titles: 'Pictorial Revue of 1943 - The End'.
