  • The race featured here is the 1963 24 Hours of Le Mans. It took place over 15 and 16 June 1963.

    "Car reverses after crashing in to a sand bank" - this is the No 26 Ferrari 250GTO LMB co-driven by Masten Gregory and David Piper.

    "car passes the camera with the front crumpled" - this is number 15, the Jaguar E-Type lightweight co-driven by Briggs S Cunningham and Bob Grossman.

    "driver who wears a red neckerchief" - that's Ludovico Scarfiotti, co-driver of the eventual winning car.


    Other cars identifiable during the clip include:

    No 41 is a Rene Bonnet Aerodjet.
    Car 00 is the Rover-BRM co-driven by Graham Hill and Richie Ginther.
    No 23 is a Ferrari 250P, co-driven by John Surtees and Willy Mairesse.
    Car 22 is another Ferrari 250P.
    No 50 is an Alpine M63
    No 53 is a Rene Bonnet Aerodjet LM6.
    No 21 is a Ferrari 250P (and the eventual winning car).
    No 25 is a Ferrari 250GTO.
    No 24 is a Ferrari 250GTO.
    No 3 is an AC Cobra.
    No 38 is a Lotus Elite Mark 14.
