Cuts (rushes, out takes) for story featured in Colour Pictorial - CP 725. The original story is also on Pathe Master tape *PM0469*.

Three reels of cuts exist for this story so well worth checking for extra material. Cuts total almost 40 minutes.

This reel of cuts has extra material of the RAF (Royal Air Force - R.A.F) regiment setting up anti aircraft equipment and the Rapier - Britain's new mobile surface to air missile. Fire fighting team at work - same or similar shots as in cut story. Lightning aircraft being prepared for take off and taxiing on the runway. Air traffic control tower. Lightning aircraft in flight. Good air to air shots.

RAF regiment marching in front of Buckingham Palace. Changing of the Guard. RAF manoeuvres. Setting up Rapier and other equipment. Fire fighting team at work putting out an aircraft blaze. They use foam fire extinguishers. Planes in flight overhead. More footage of the changing of the Guards. C/U of Royal Air Force Catterick sign.

Parachutists are dropped from an aircraft. Various shots of them floating down to earth. RAF regiment walk and run across a field. Parachutists work fast to get their rifles out. Soldiers make their way across the field. Mock battle footage. Good shots of parachutists landing and getting ready for battle. Soldiers in blue boiler suits carry large pieces of wood and scramble across an observation course. Young soldiers swap their RAF berets for green helmets. Soldiers board an aircraft. Various shots of the plane in flight. I don't think any of this material made it into the cut story. Good shots of parachutists leaving the plane from interior and exterior.

Aircraft prepared for flight - various shots. Might be for the "Battle of Britain" feature film.

The great politician and orator Winston Churchill left behind a sea of humourous quips and discerning quotes. We remember some of his finest epigrams and witty ripostes.

British Pathe captured many extraordinary events on film over its 80 year history but sometimes the cameras were switched on when tragedy struck.

Verbal warfare at its best. Here are some of history's greatest retorts and snarling insults. These people certainly didn't mince their words!
