"The scene is outside a church in Russia, and a marriage has taken place between Boris Strogoff and Katinka." M/S of a stage set. The chorus are dressed in traditional Russian costumes. They mill around the stage. Four bridesmaids emerge from the church, followed by the bride and groom.

"Then follows the ancient ceremony of the salt and bread - and finally the whip with which the bride swears allegiance to her husband." Panning shot of the action on stage. The bride takes the bread and salt then kneels down holding a cushion up to her husband. He takes a whip off the cushion and taps her on the shoulder with it. "For continuation of this charming play KATINKA - Book your seats early."

Note: "Katinka" staged at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London was a successful musical which starred Joe Coyne and Binnie Hale. This is possibly the couple seen in this wedding scene although they are not named in titles.
