    Calverton Colliery, Nottinghamshire.

    Crowd of workers gathered around circle representing pit with mike in the middle. Several shots of the buildings around, shaft wheel turning. Pan down to crowd. Two officials in the circle. Man (named as Colonel C. G. Lancaster in another record) talking - natural sound. He is talking about building of the colliery in time of shortage of men and finances but it was finished. He talks about importance of the mine on national level, number of people the mine will provide work for etc. He finishes and cuts first sod, crowd gives him three cheers. Another man, standing next to him has a go, and several other men. Another man speaking about difficulty of attracting young people into industry. High angle shot of a group of miners talking.
