Opening of National Kitchen by Mrs Lloyd George.

Location of events unknown - probably London.

Opens with scene in street; Mrs. Lloyd George (wife of Prime Minister David Lloyd George) and another lady getting out of open carriage or car - (one of them has a hat that looks like it's going to take off like a plane!) shot of people crowded in line; with young boys looking at camera. Working-class and middle class. Then a shot of 3 teenage girls eating at table; with a railing; barrier in front (looks like enclosure in front of the kitchen / restaurant - SL). One of them sees camera and grins at it. DS crowd of people gathered outside; above doors of building 'NK' for National Kitchen. Mrs Lloyd George and companion get back into their coach and are driven off while crowds look on.

These National Kitchens were set up by the government and people were encouraged to eat there and save coal by not cooking at home.

Social services. Wartime economising; rationing. World War One; home front.
