Mid shot of the royal box at the 1908 Olympic Games at the White City Stadium, as dignitaries take their seats, possibly including Queen Alexandra, and people mill around below. All following sporting action is slightly sped up. Male pole vaulter fails to clear the bar, or even get very close to it. Good low angle of pole vaulter performing successful jump. Gymnastics action next, and male gymnast performing on the horizontal bars, which is located outdoors, as two officials, and not many spectators, watch on. Male high jumper performing successful jump, then another jumper doing the same. Action from the tug-of-war, as two teams pull away without making much progress. Brief cuts of the end of the contest. More gymnastics, and team of male gymnasts, possibly USA, vaulting over a horse, on which is sat a fellow gymnast. The gymnast on the horse becomes two, and his fellow gymnasts continue to leap over them. Close ups of various male discus throwers throwing the discus.
Water polo action from an outdoor pool, though it is unclear what action is taking place. Start of men's swimming race, as swimmers dive into the outdoor pool and swim away, seemingly in no specific lanes. Women's archery action, and nice mid shot of women in contemporary long dresses and hats performing in the archery, with them inspecting the target and discussing the results. Start of the men's marathon, the race from which the distance of 26 miles, 385 yards for a marathon originated from, at the request of Princess Mary. London street packed with spectators, who watch as joggers jog past, followed by cyclists. Italy's Dorando Pietri walking into the stadium, in the lead of the event, but clearly suffering from exhaustion, and followed by a crowd of medical staff. Pietri lying on the ground, as smelling salts are administered, and a man shouts to the crowd from a loud hailer. Pietri on his feet and walking, receiving a helping hand from an attendant, and followed by policemen. Pietri crossed the line first, but was disqualified for receiving medical assistance, and so the gold medal was awarded to USA's John Hayes.
Low angle of athletes climbing the steps to the royal box, probably to receive their medals. Athlete, from unknown sport, being paraded to the crowd, waving a USA flag. Mid shot team of athletes lined up, inspecting their awards.
