    US Olympic Team Trials and Torch Ceremony.

    Someone hold a programme to camera - it's Rome 1960 US team trials. WS of the crowd in the stadium stands. Gun fires and sprint begins. Runners make their way around the track. One falls behind. They cross the finish line. CU of athlete, has number 179 on his chest. Compilation of various events: shot put, long jump, crowd shots, close ups of athletes talking (no sound). Good shot of the crowd getting to their feet in excitement. Pole vaulting. American athlete shakes hands with suited man. The height of the high jump beam is measured by officials. Three jumps are made, filmed from different angles. Measurements taken again with tape measure. Film cuts out.

    Extreme CU of ocean taken from side of ship. WS of wooden sailing ship flying Italian flag. Various shots of the ship and its masts. A rowing boat heads towards it.

    Unclear close ups of a burning flame. Cut to Olympic torch bearer in rowing boat at night. Rows to the dock where spectators wait. Smoke drifts across the water. Shots of crowd, cars, and torches. CU of Olympic rings flag alongside Italian flag. Man at microphone reads a speech (no sound). A new torch is lit from a beacon. It is handed to an athlete who jogs through the crowd holding it above his head.
