The Swedish Academy of Science awarded this years Nobel Prize for chemistry to 2 German scientists, 74 years old Prof. Otto Diels discovered the Dien-synthesis in 1927, which has become the initial formula for several hundred chemical processes. The entire plastics industry is based on the work of this German scientist. The second award was given to Prof. Kurt Alder of Cologne University - former assistant to prof. Diels, Prof Alder today concentrates on atom research.
