  • This is unbelievable!!! I viewed this clip as my father was one of those Czech soldiers on parade as he trained at Lemington Spa where this film was made.
Believe it or not, amongst all those thousands of soldiers there, your camera has focused on a soldier in the front line (your stills 33 and 34 seconds ( the only soldier you focused on ). My family is 99.9% convinced that this is my late father Eugene Ponger. When comparing this pic with pics of him pre war, the likeness is the same. What a small minimal chance that this could happen, that he would appear on film and he would come to light again for us 71 years later!!!! Brithish Pathe, do you have written records where you actually recorded the name of this soldier for confirmation. Anyway thanks a lot for preserving this film. John

  • You're welcome pioneer10! Glad you have found a family member in our clips. Unfortunately, we have no records available for this. Has anyone spotted anyone else in the clip?

The great politician and orator Winston Churchill left behind a sea of humourous quips and discerning quotes. We remember some of his finest epigrams and witty ripostes.

British Pathe captured many extraordinary events on film over its 80 year history but sometimes the cameras were switched on when tragedy struck.
