    Shots of American delegate Walter Bedell Smith (US ambassador to Russia) sitting at a desk. He makes a short speech about the US Embassy preparing for their part in conference and the peace treaty with Germany and Austria.

    At the British Embassy Sir Maurice Peterson says that he is leaving for the frontier that evening to meet his delegation, headed by Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin. He says he is full of hope and confidence regarding what the conference may be able to achieve, regarding the German settlement and the future of Germany.
