    Cuts from newsreel 46/58 - Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery receives freedom of city of London.

    Shots of Guildhall. Guests arriving at Guildhall for ceremony. Monty, dressed in battle dress and black beret, arrives riding in horse-drawn open landau. He steps down from the carriage, shakes hands with officials. The Grenadier guards forming a guard of honour to Monty. Presenting Arms. Monty inspecting the Guard of Honour.

    Natural sound section (intermittent) as the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Charles Davis and Mayoress Lady Davis greet important guests arriving inside Guildhall. Clement Attlee and his wife mount platform and greet Mayor and Mayoress. Monty walks to platform, greets Mayor and Mayoress amid loud applause from the gathering.

    Chamberlain of the City of London invites Monty to rise and make the Freeman's Declaration. Monty stands and reads the declaration then signs the roll of fame. Chamberlain walks to Monty and greets him as a Freeman and Mercer of the City of London. Lord Mayor presents Monty with token sword of Honour.

    Monty makes lengthy speech, paying tribute to the people of London and the unconquerable British soldier.
