Good to see this, my father Dennis painted the Disney and Beatrix Potter characters on these vans and in several of the local nurseries. He is now 90 and recalls clearly doing a lot of the images at the Kings Mill on Fairbottom Street in 1950 (Oldham Coliseum). At the time he worked for a company called Masons who did advertising on buses, theatres and cinemas. He also worked for Oldham Bus Depot doing all the coats of arms in gold leaf and the special signwriting before going to Platts for many years. Dad was particularly good at the Disney figures so did a lot of these for Pantomimes, School/Church Shows. (St Pauls Ashton Road, Holy Rosary Fitton Hill, Holy Trinity Bardsley. Hathershaw Junior School.) Mum did costumes for the shows and often the Carnival Queens of the time.
Mum had a shop at Hathershaw and they did a Christmas window based on popular films of the year with small donations to the churches and Oldham Carnival. The nursery kids would come to look with the supervisor.
