    VS. Astronaut Malcolm Scott Carpenter being fitted into space uniform. VS. Tests being made on Carpenters space suit prior to flight, John Glenn stands by. MS. Carpenter climbs into the transfer van which will take him to pad. LS. Night time and the Aroura 7 a giant Atlas Missile stands on the pad at Cape Canaveral in blaze of lights. VS. The transfer van arrives at the launching pad and Carpenter makes his exit and walks straight into the lift that will carry him to his capsule. MS. As lift makes its way up gantry to the top. MCU. The astronaut takes up his position in the capsule. VS. Around Cape Canaveral cameramen and reporters are preparing themselves. LS. The Atlas rocket Aurora Seven takes off in a haze and the path is followed as long as conditions permit. An Animated diagram shows the path the Aurora Seven is planned to take. VS. Carpenter at control in his capsule. VS. At work in Mercury Control. Looking out over fairly calm sea. MS. Naval personnel look through binoculars to try to see some sign of Carpenter. CU. Parachutists jumps from aircraft after sighting the Aurora Seven he glides down towards the sea. MS. The Aurora Seven in the water Carpenter hangs on the side waiting to be picked up. MLS. Carpenter manages to get into a dinghy and to safety. VS. Scott Carpenter relaxing with feet up
