    This is actually Private William Ratcliffe. Details of the actions for which he was awarded the VC are here.....

  • Given that the battle for which Ratcliffe was awarded his Victoria Cross took place in 1917, I think perhaps the date range is more likely to be, say, 1917-1919, (this event might well have taken just after the war). What do you think?

  • This was reported in the Liverpool Weekly Courier on 08.09 1917. The event took place on 06.08.1917. Two priests attended. Father J Prescott, who had been at the front for over two years, and Father Toomey
