M/S of a group of Italians in brightly coloured traditional 13th Century costumes walking down the steps outside what looks to me like the town hall in Liverpool, Merseyside; some men at the rear are waving large flags about. There are a few locals wearing, in contrast, drab, grey, English winter clothes! C/U of some of the men waving the flags; commentator tells us "these men are flag jugglers of the famous 'Giostra del Saracimo' still held every year at Arezzo in Italy".

C/U of the head of the group - who is not flag-waving - tilt down to show his costume of red and gold with a black horse emblazoned on his cream tunic. The costumes are amazing, in reds, golds, greens and blues with embroidery; some have long droopy hoods. M/S of this man and another who is holding a baton; his costume of black and cream also has a black horse on the tunic; lots of spectators can be seen in the background. C/U of his face; he is wearing a helmet with a model of a black horse's head on top of it and chain mail over his chin and neck.

M/Ss of the group coming slowly down the steps waving their flags led by the two leaders (black horses on their tunics) and four young boys with feathered hats; walking across the road towards a department store (could be Lewis's) followed by a policeman; walking along a busy road where buses are passing; from behind as they walk towards a square.

Various M/Ss of the men walking round swirling the flags around and throwing them high in the air to catch them; lots of people have gathered to watch; C/U of two girls watching. Nice C/U of a woman watching who starts to film it with her cine camera (she is smartly turned out with a leopard skin bag). C/U of one of the flag jugglers, panning right to show the crowd watching; C/U of the Mayor of Liverpool with an official looking man wearing a red vestment with a row of medals looking on. High angle M/S as the jugglers all toss their flags in the air and catch them.
Note: nice colourful (well, the Italians are!) film; I can't find any explanation as to why the flag jugglers turned up in Liverpool though. See also CP 338 - Italian Crossbowmen.
