In the description it states - \"one man turns the propellor but cannot get it started\". If you look, you will see that he is turning the propeller backwards. This was standard practice (with the ignition turned off) to suck fuel into the engine before starting it.
If the man in the newsreel attempted to start the engine in such a manner he would probably lose a hand, an arm or his life.

after much research I find this Pathe film. In it is my father, Thomas Joseph Hughes and his older brother Arthur. My dad told me about the aero club when I was about 10 years old. He died in 1981. He is one of the youngest in it at age 23 years old. His older brother Arthur is beside him in most of the shots. My dad has a good head of dark hair and smiles a lot. He is wearing a kind of Flying coat with a fur collar. Dad and his brother are not wearing hats. He moved to Scotland and married my mum Bridget McGuinness in Airdrie and lived there until his death. Thank you so much British Pathe News. From his youngest son Thomas Francis Hughes.
