  • A makeshift slate at 01:45 identifies the footage to have been shot on 14 January 1945 by a Sgt Parkinson. The slate also bears the letters "EYEMO", which presumably refers to an Eyemo film camera, popular with combat cameramen.

British Pathe captured many extraordinary events on film over its 80 year history but sometimes the cameras were switched on when tragedy struck.
