  • Narrowing down this clip's current date range, the policeman's list of 19 car registration plates that we see 02:57 bears no post-1963 numbers. Nor are any post-1963 reg plates seen on the streets during the clip.

Furthermore, at 05:18, there's a glimpse of "Chanel Story" by Barbara Griggs. I've found extracts from "Chanel Story", (presumably a book, or maybe a newspaper column) in newspapers from March 1962.

I think, then, that this footage can be safely dated as originating from between 1961-63.

British Pathe captured many extraordinary events on film over its 80 year history but sometimes the cameras were switched on when tragedy struck.

On June 4 1913, suffragette Emily Wilding Davison made her way in to the history books when she fell under the hooves of George V’s horse at the Epsom Derby. But was it intentional?

The great politician and orator Winston Churchill left behind a sea of humourous quips and discerning quotes. We remember some of his finest epigrams and witty ripostes.

WW2 accounted for over 60m deaths and innumerable lives shattered. Pathé cameras took to land, sea and air to record the bloodshed. Here are the 10 bloodiest battles that were caught on film.

Terrorism is nothing new. The Pathe archive has a vast collection of material related to terrorist attacks dating back to 1919 right through to the 2005 London bombings.
