  • HIS MAJESTY'S GRENADIER GUARDS 1931. At '1.37' on the 'Stills' facility, note the embroidered black armbands incorporated into the bass drummer's tunic sleeves at the elbow. This regimental device mourned the death of King Charles II (who authorised the creation of the Grenadier and Coldstream Guards' bands in early 1685). An insignia found only on the time-beater's uniform of the Grenadier Guards, it survived up to the outbreak of World War Two.

On June 4 1913, suffragette Emily Wilding Davison made her way in to the history books when she fell under the hooves of George V’s horse at the Epsom Derby. But was it intentional?
