HIS MAJESTY'S GRENADIER GUARDS 1931. At '1.37' on the 'Stills' facility, note the embroidered black armbands incorporated into the bass drummer's tunic sleeves at the elbow. This regimental device mourned the death of King Charles II (who authorised the creation of the Grenadier and Coldstream Guards' bands in early 1685). An insignia found only on the time-beater's uniform of the Grenadier Guards, it survived up to the outbreak of World War Two.
