The ltalian secret services recruited Albanian bandits to murder the Italian General Tellini near the Greco-Albanian borderline. The murder was then blamed on Greece and Mussolini attempted to seize Corfu in retaliation. The city of Corfu was bombarded in due military fashion, albeit being defenceless with refugees residing within the fortresses, and the italian forces landed to occury the island. Things were temporarily rectified after Greece was forced to pay a huge amount as compensation. The true facts were revealed prior to the breakout of hostilities in 1940, after the Albanian bandit Daut Hoxha was murdered by two young shepherds who subsequently asked for refuge in Greece.
