Garrick Theatre, London. "Joseph Coyne - how many remember him in "The Merry Widow?" In "Dédé", he returns to the Stage - and a Bootshop - and what a time the poor customer has!" M/S of two actors playing a scene in a shoe shop. One man pulls the other's boots off. He tries to force a new pair of shoes on the man and a slapstick routine ensues.
"Can you imagine a lady's dress from the shoes she wears - ?" C/U of the bottom of a screen, a ladies lower legs and feet can be seen as she walks past. Another follows in a different style of shoe. The third is a ballerina on points. Then a woman in low mules, then elegant dancing shoes, then clogs (?), then sandals, then boots. "Now see how your imagination served you - " An outrageous outfit is displayed. An amazingly ornate costume which defies description!
The second woman wears a Spanish style outfit including a mantilla. The third wears a white curly wig and a floaty chiffon dress. The fourth a lavish coat dress trimmed with fur and an enormous headdress. High angle L/S of all the costumes. The last woman parades for the camera.
Note: despite the fantastic costumes in this show, Dédé was a flop - only running for 50 performances.
