Girl carpenters - the wood snippers concert party. Location of events unknown. Byfleet, Surrey.

The Wood Snippers' Concert Party Amateur theatre; stagecraft. Women war workers practice for Western Front show. Opens w/ scene of girls in coats; some with suitcases; arriving somewhere; shaking hands with men at a table. CU same. Girl puts down bag; hugs man - happy greeting. Women sanding a wooden board attached to a stand. Then a shot of a line of women; smiling; laughing; exiting building carrying various carpentry tools. Women building pallets; frames; toys; etc. 2 girls; using saw and hammer. Back to interior shot: on left a woman sits at sort of raised bench; working with small tools in her hands; man & 2 women at another bench in BG. Woman enters; walks to a 3rd bench; sets down bag; starts sanding; pan to her.

A few women in lace-trimmed dresses; with parasols; doing a little dance on garden path; and apparently singing; while a man walks backward before them; waving a conductor's baton! Cut to a pas de deux: a duet dance between woman in dress; bonnet; with fan; in ballet slippers; and a woman wearing breeches; long coat; etc. Women in their costumes hanging out laughing like it's hysterically funny. Twirling parasols; tiptoeing along; acting silly. Parasol dance again. Women in work clothes again; standing with tools. Group walks through yard past workshop buildings; carrying tools. Repeat work scenes.

Women carpenters (war workers in World War One)rehearse amateur theatre / entertainment. Women carry large flats; ca. 4'x10'; of boards nailed together; stand them on end; finish hammering in nails. Sanding again. Women sanding a long curved thing; like a vertical section of cylinder; 1 woman kneels in middle; others lean over sides. Next; a bizarre shot of 3 women standing inside a circle that looks like Erector set. --some expressionist vision.

CU woman's hand holding tool; which snips off rough bits of a sort of plank with rounded edges; wrapped in narrow strips of something. Back to scene of women's arrival; carrying suitcases; shaking hands with man. CU woman holding up & showing different sides of a little wooden toy cart The parasol gang (from Part 1) again; prancing in a row; twirling the parasols; hair in long ringlets. etc. Title frame: Some are being demobilised. The 4 girls with parasols do the little dance step through garden; conductor steps up to them.

Cut to shot of girls gathered around automobile; waving; while 2 men bend over looking at car. Car driving toward camera; with all the costumed girls riding in or on it- very crowded. More of pas de deux dance between 2 women; one in dress & one in male attire; breeches & long coat like the Blue Boy. Girl crouches; flutters fan. They step round in circle with little jete's. Women war workers; funny; silly. tool; labour

Amendment Ocitber 2011: A visitor to the site has written in with additional information. This is the factory of WG Tarrant. Some workers are building huts whilst the others are building the Tabor heavy bomber. They are probably making struts to go between the wings. The film probably dates from 1918/19. The dance and car scenes take place outside Byfleet Village Hall.
