    Cigarettes are issued to French troops. CU of man opening packed of cigarettes.

    Various shots of French soldiers. Badge on arm reads: "Corps France". Hand grenades strung around belts. Various shots of machine guns and grenades. More shots of soldiers some wear caps, others berets. Shots of them moving through woodland.

    A French soldier stands guard at a barrier. A horse drawn cart driven by French troops are allowed through. Hand grenades are distributed to soldiers.

    A soldier advances through countryside with Bren gun. CU as he changes magazine. Messages are sent by carrier pigeons, a message is fixed to the bird's leg.

    Various shots of concealed wooden positions in forest. Officers look out with binoculars over valley below. Shots of troops digging defensive positions and building shelters. Troops move along trenches. CU food being served from cooking pot to troops. Various shots of them eating.

    Patrol leaves with two mules packed with supplies. They walk out of the town and into the country. They unload the supplies and carry them across barbed wire.
