French train gun. Location of events unknown.

World War One; weapons. Heavy artillery; technology. Various giant guns. Opens with shot of foggy country scene; looking over fields. Then shot of a big box-like looking thing sitting on railroad track; camouflage paint all over it; and a gun sticking out. This is the French 'Train Gun'. The contraption rocks and shakes as gun fires. Another view; from behind - the camouflage paint looks like some modern art painting; some men on ground behind it.

Shot from behind another big gun; this one in the woods; seen through a thicket; a soldier on its right; the gun fires in a white flash of light; rocks back on its wheels and falls forward again. A really huge fat gun in a clearing; firing; and kicking back with great force as it does. Another big fat gun like a cannon; firing; looks like this one is on track like train also; 2 French soldiers in FG. CU gun firing. BOOM! Big cloud of smoke.

10 telling images selected from British Pathé's extensive WWI footage. 'The war to end all wars' was a war without parallel: over 70 million military personnel were involved and over 17 million people died.

Verbal warfare at its best. Here are some of history's greatest retorts and snarling insults. These people certainly didn't mince their words!
