MS man on street with dog; he hands out papers to 3 men who approach. Mangled tree in foreground with soldiers marching on road below in background.

    MS battlefield: CU blown up tree stump is splintered in all directions; a few French soldiers walking across the mess. Using truck to pull gun on tractor wheels out of the mud. Shot looking down at soldiers marching on road through empty landscape. Next; donkeys used to transport supplies; walking up road with a few French soldiers. Pan on the animals standing during rest stop. Soldier in middle of group of donkeys; feeding them. CU soldiers feeding donkeys. Soldiers load bags on back of small donkey; push it forward; then another is loaded. Repeat moving big gun. Soldiers push small carts on boards laid over the mud. Arm of corpse sticking out of water and mud. Shot from very high up of big empty muddy place; group of soldiers at right Soldiers returning to muddy bombed trenches. MS soldier trying to dislodge something from mud?
