Star Item
  • Description

    Title reads "FOOTBALL".

Start of an unknown football match. Captains toss the coin and the match starts.

Several shots of the match in which one of the teams wearing striped shirts - there are obviously shots of the two different football matches here.

There is a mixture of footage of two football matches in this and previous item on the tape titled "WEST BROMWICH V SPENNYMORE UNITED". Since West Bromwich is mostly playing in striped shirts it is possible that one of the matches is between West Bromwich and Spennymoor United. Old record states that the other match is between West Ham and Bolton.

    "Spennymore" should read Spennymoor.

One of the matches is indeed West Bromwich Albion v Spennymoor United. They played in a 3rd Round FA Cup match on 16 January 1937, West Brom running out as 7-1 winners.

The other game seen, West Ham v Bolton, was played on the same day, and ended 0-0.

Thanks for this. Anyone out there remember Spennymoor United?
