M/S of a dummy in a period dress standing on a table. Several girls seated around the table are drawing it. High angle C/U shot of on of the drawings. It is a typical fashion drawing. L/S of the workshop shows the girls working. Several C/U shots demonstrating printing on fabric. This is Ealing School of Art where one of the subjects is fashion design. Students learn every aspect of fashion design, from embroidery to fabric printing.
L/S of a garden with lots of women around. Several shots of the students getting ready for a garden fashion show. The idea of the fashion show is to confront old and new. M/S of the girls in the audience. L/S of the two girls (models) walking between two rows of seated women. One girl is wearing Edwardian promenade dress with matching umbrella while another models a modern sun dress. Edwardian Ascot dress is placed next to 'a nice Queen mother outfit'. High angle M/S of the feet of the next model shows "painted-and-jewelled" stockings and an extravagant silk 'tail'. Camera tilts up to show a rich tango dress and picture hat. She is confronted with girl wearing modern top and skirt with terrible looking flowerpot hat.
Next to come are the ball dresses. Fist is Georgian ball gown with matching wig and second is a modern white ball gown with long red gloves. Simple 50's day dress stands next to Edwardian morning dress. Beachwear - 1912 little dress (fantastic!) looks much better then its modern red counterpart.
Note: Girls featured in film are: Mary O'Mally, Kristina Ragovska, Jocelyn Catry, Gloria Richardson, Anne Jackson, Linda Neil, Monica Confavereau, Suzanne Danvers-Walker, Pat Hallam, Barbara Courtney, Jean Stevens and Ann Price.
