    Ashington, Northumberland.

    Title: "DEFEATED BUT NOT DISGRACED. Ashington ... the Miner's Team ... despite grand struggle ... succumb to the the [sic] mighty Aston Villa in the first round for the F.A. Cup".

    M/S of a team of footballers coming out of the dressing rooms past the spectators, and on to the pitch. The team all wear striped shirts, as does a little boy standing on the sideline (a team mascot?). M/S of the two captains at the centre of the pitch, they shake hands with the referee and each other, the captain of the striped shirt team tosses a coin twice.

    Various shots of the match in progress. We see one of the striped shirt team throwing a ball onto the pitch. The action of the game moves down to one of the goal mouths, we see a goal being scored by the striped shirt team, the crowd behind the goal erupts in cheers.

    Note: the repetition of the word 'the' is on the original title. AH 2000.

    The match was played on 12 January 1924.

    Aston Villa won the game 5-1.
